Several States had State religions for a number of years after the Constitution was ratified. No one at the time thought the Constitution in anyway affected this State decision. The Constitution has been turned completely on hit's head. Now Congress can do anything it wants and States must get permision from the Feds to do anything. The States were supposed to fund Congress. Now Congress sends funds to the States - provided they dance Congress' little dances.

The establishment clause would better be called "the anti-establishment clause" which protects the people from having any form of worship imposed on them by Congress as was the practice in England and Scotland and in most of the American colonies before the Constitution was amended.
