John - Re: "Funny, the analyst's are experts in how companies should manufacture, market and sell their products. Yet you never see them leave their comfortable positions at the brokerage houses to go to work for real companies. With their expertise, you would think that they would be in great demand."

Superb - SUPERB - observation.

Kurlak comes to mind - who at least joined Tiger Management - right before its demise - probably not due to Kurlak - but Kurlak sure didn't save Tiger from its collapse - despite his brilliant prognostications.

John, RE: With their expertise, you would think that they would be in great demand.

This is something I previously posted on the SUNW thread in response to someone hoping that the analysts understand SUNW's vision. I noted that SUNW appears to get its advice from an analyst.

From ML report 5/5/99 (a few weeks after ML downgraded SUNW):

"Ed [Zander] credited us with telling him that winning companies have vision, focus, and execution, a credo he uses in managing Sun."
