TI claims its chips are in 45% of ADSL equipment Semiconductor Business News (10/31/00, 04:39:46 PM EDT) DALLAS -- Texas Instruments Inc. today predicted that its analog line driver shipments this year enable eight million asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) ports to deployed in the field in 2000. That total is 25 times greater than TI's shipments in 1999, according to the Dallas company. TI also claimed that its line drivers and ADSL chip sets will be in 45% of the asymmetrical digital subscriber line equipment worldwide, based on a report from International Data Corp. (IDC). The Dallas company quoted IDC analyst Sean Lavey as saying that TI was poised to become a leading semiconductor player in the ADSL chip market with three million complete chip sets and a total of eight million line drivers being shipped this year. TI said it will doubled shipments of ADSL chip sets in the second half of 2000 to about two million units compared to one million in the first six months of this year.
