"Democrats are the spenders, republicans the savers."

Okay, you and Rush Limbaugh just keep each other company repeating that trite mantra.

In fact though, the Republicans spend as irresponsibly as the Democrats. The only difference between the two parties is which particular special interests fund them. And since neither Gore nor Bush stands for anything except blind, blithering party loyalty, when you choose your candidate you are choosing a party, and are thereby choosing a set of special interests. And face it, the Republican special interests require a lot of pork, from corporate welfare for the military-industrial complex to corporate welfare for Big Oil. The biggest and best Republican spend-a-thons are off-budget and support both of those special interests. In contrast, Democratic pork is at least in the general interest as well as the special interest: public education, labor unions, the environment, and so on.

Anyway, have fun chanting with Rush. I'm outta here.
