They can't know the internal state very well, but that's far better than guessing the meaning of price patterns. I don't reveal how one goes about discovering the internal state. No, they shouldn't throw away their charts and rely on fundamentals. The charts certainly reflect what was expected. The charts tell you whether a stock is relatively low or relatively high. That's plenty treacherous too, so both charts and fundamentals are just indications of the possibilities. What happens is where you end up and there is no causal connection between why you got there and why you might have expected to get there.
