I think most Americans understand the principle, what they do not see is the way in which supposed efforts to do good have often made things worse. That is one of the reasons that I hope the Republican Party will make an earnest effort to reach out to minorities. There is a better way than brokering interest groups at the public trough and perpetuating dependency on government programs. It is the way of community action, centered around churches and other indigenous institutions; of education and employment; and of family stability, which is the single most devastating problem in the black community, and affects far too many Latinos in the country's barrios. I wish Louis Farrakhan were not a bigot and a nut, for he is right to teach responsibility, and to call men to take care of their children. We ought to be putting government resources into making the inner city safer, its schools better, and giving kids after school havens, not administering yet another affirmative action program...........

Frank: You need to take a hard look at why we have these divides of rich vs. poor, black vs. white, male vs. female. Perhaps the reason is that the Republican Party, the party of white suburbanites, offers few solutions for minorities, single women, union members. I know that's a novel idea, but there might be some validity to it.
