You are absolutely right. I think we need to throw away all crutches, excepting for the truly handicapped, make a truly open road of opportunity for all, and then let people climb as high as they can and/or want to in the tree of life. If people are not personally motivated they shouldn't be pampered. However, on the other hand, no one should be held back because of race, creed or gender. It should be, "If it is to be, it is up to me."

That is true enough. On the other hand, the military engages in its own training, and you had better learn it, too. At some point, the acquisition of basic skills (reading, writing, 'rthmetic) is very useful, and the acquisition of specialized skills (like using surface to air missiles or typing or welding or using Windows) is the key to upgrading your position in the labor force........
