"Can you point to any high-tech successful "IP companies?" "

MIPS and ARM.

Petz,

<Can you give an example? >

QCOM, MIPS (I own some of each), ARMHY are probably the most high profile ones. RMBS used to be the other IP company in my portfolio but no more.

<Any drug startup that doesn't develop at least one new product a year is doomed.>

Applies for semiconductor IP companies too.

Being an IP company was not RMBS's sin. Its current problems have to do with high valuation and too many enemies and "zero" value chain. The last one is extremely important for any company to be successful on a long term basis.
