that's often the problem with shorting...it may btw. be a sign that all margined longs have been cleaned out. as far as i know only stocks held in margin accounts are lendable.

i'm not sure about that though.

That would explain a lot. Institutions called the lent shares back to jack the sucker up into the teeth of a fraud investigation so they could unload. MMs can short all they want, so a scheme was on. Lawyers will be rich off this one. -ng-

Just placed an order to short Scamazon at Ameritrade. No problem. Probably FIDO lent shares to some "shorting agent".
