Amkor sees $300 mln in revs from Toshiba joint venture

NEW YORK, Oct 31 (Reuters) - Amkor Technology Inc. (NASDAQ NM:AMKR), the world's largest contract maker of microelectronics, on Tuesday said that it expects revenues of $300 million over the next 12 months from its joint venture with Japanese electronics firm Toshiba Corp. (:).

In August, the companies said they had agreed to form a chip assembly and testing joint venture in Japan. West Chester, PA-based Amkor said the deal is expected to close about Dec. 1.

The company said on Tuesday that its third-quarter net income excluding special items was $73 million, or 46 cents a share, up from $34 million, or 27 cents a share in the same period last year. Including special items, net income was $45 million, or 28 cents a share, up from $26 million, or 21 cents a share last year.

Revenues rose to $649 million from $502 million in the third quarter of 1999.
