<<Think about it. GE had tax liability percentage about half of what a typical school janitor with a wife and three kids has.>>

Think about it, I've had years my taxes were more than I had income. Think about that.

flapjack, I will give you one that may surprise you. I believe a lot of the major corporations support democrats because they have influence with them and can get just what you are talking about done. The big guys make big contributions and they have unbelieveable access to the Gores, Clintons, Gephardts, etc.. These guys can get a rider on a bill that gives the big guys a lot of comfort. Remember when Hillary was trying to get her national health care agenda in? I know she, Clinton and Gore were absolutely shocked they didn't receive more major corporation support. The sweetener they were offering the corporations was effectively the government (we) would take over the cost of health care for their retirees. In other words, if you were a retiree from G.M. or Ford and G.M. or Ford was paying for your insurance during your retirement Hillary was proposing the government (us) would take over that cost. She thought that would cause the Jack Smith's of big corporations to endorse her program. The trickle down effect would have been that small business would say, "that guy is smart and if he endorses it then it must be a good deal." And on and on and on. But, the bottom line is Clinton and Gore were willing to take on the cost of the corporate retirees insurance in exchange for support in getting the program through. I think the corporate heads couldn't do that just because the stink test was just too disturbing.
