IBM's been using stock buy-backs to hold up EPS for quite some time now.....more of the same, as 4Q will be slow!!!

Jim, hedging with Puts is often a good strategy. Good move. I think this past earnings release and the street reaction was one of the worst I have seen over the years. A lot of built up frustration by a lot of institutions. I do not see double digit revenue growth at this point. 4Q99 was not that good of course, so the comparison is not difficult, but a lot of the quarter is back end loaded so December will be critical. Hopefully, we get a favorable market through November into early December but then you get the earnings warning season again and someone will start a rumor that IBM is going to warn so if we are going to think in terms of hedging or positioning out, mid-December may be the time. Just a thought.
