But we were hearing it from Armey and Co. several years ago. What happened? Clinton shot it down. A flat tax would make everyone pay the same percentage. Also an exemption on the first ?$26,000 or thereabouts. Sounded good to me. alan w

I think we're in agreement about tax equity. There is also a lot of lip service about tax rates being progressive. The 31% tax bracket, which is only 8 points below the top bracket, starts at about half the median income in this area. I think there's too many tax breaks such as the various tax credits and deductions that reward consumption and borrowing to the detriment of savings and of tax equity.
