Hi Steve - yes, this may cause a bit of a problem. However, ALTR and XLNX are really small segment of the chip mkt. I guess the traders don't mind another whipsaw to reload; however, the overall mkt is eager to rally. If you look at the volumes on both NYSE and NAZ, and their advances, there is definitely fresh money coming in today. In a downtrodden mkt, great earning is not good enough. Look at NT, the nitpicking went from topline at the low end to optical segment only grew by 90%. However, in an up mkt, it may be a different game ball. Look at Rambus today, that didn't stop anyone else gone ballastic!

Furthermore, ALTR is not AMCC to the telecom sector. Still, you are right. The mkt is definitely still jittery, we will wait and see

best, Bosco

Hi Steve - ALTR problem may be due to losing mkt shrs to its archrival, XLNX. So it is company specific.

However, the WCOM news could be a problem in terms of perception. That said, evidently, its bottom line shortfall is due to competitive pressure and exchange rate. Again, my contrarian argument holds, namely, WCOM can only deal with competitive pressure by improving the efficiency of its infrastructure. There is a good chance for more business for the vendor to can bring this about
