Frank: Re: corporate strong-arming. It happens all the time. Every once in a while a newspaper will print donor lists to certain candidates. You'll see the president of the corporation give the max to a particular candidate (almost always a right-wing Republican), then you'll see the VP give the same amount ... the No. 3 guy perhaps gives $1,000 instead of $2,000 ... right on down the line to the president's secretary. And you're telling me that this is an unorganized activity? Nonsense. But there is no outrage at this type of corporate donation. Outrage is reserved only for union donors.

The real reason that Republicans want to institute a dues checkoff for union members is not to ensure personal civil liberties. That's hogwash. The real reason is to weaken unions' clout at the polls.
