Rich1,

Thanks.

There's another article appearing on SmartMoney.com entitled, "Rambus Gets Shellacked." To me, here are three two most interesting paragraphs:

As a result, Rambus has signed a number of agreements with DRAM makers, including Hitachi (HIT) and Toshiba, to use RDRAM technology in more mainstream types of memory. Several analysts on Wall Street who strongly believe in Rambus point to these agreements as proof that the company's patent claims are valid.

Naysayers contend that the particulars of these signed contracts aren't known. What's more, companies like Micron Technology (MU), the largest U.S. DRAM maker, and Hyundai Electronics, the No. 2 memory maker in the world, have initiated lawsuits against Rambus, claiming that certain of the company's patent claims are invalid and unenforceable. Both cases are pending.

"That's a real key point that the patent has not been proven to be Rambus's," says Garber. "The courts do have to decide that. That's not a slam dunk for Rambus by any means."

I don't understand how a company's patents that have been awarded to them by the US Patent Office can be made invalid and unenforceable.
