I'm not sure I sanction lying. I wearily expect it. Most people lie and do all sorts of other awful things a great deal more than I do. Especially people in politics. It seems to attract a kind of yucky personality. Perhaps it's the hubris it requires to put oneself in the National spotlight. At least yucky to me. I've been married since 18 (20 years ago) and never cheated on my spouse. I've never cheated on a test (and had a 4.0 in my science major in college, despite - or perhaps because- I did not cheat). I've volunteered my entire life- helping the elderly, minorities, children and the needy. Further I don't help people because I expect a reward now or in the hereafter- aside from the reward of living in a society better for my helping it.

I think I'm a paragon of what people call virtue- except that some people can't see past my agnosticism. But so what? I'd make a lousy leader- I'm way too honest and in my school board race I frequently endorse other candidates to people. Because the other candidates are great, and I don't mind saying so. We all have our strengths. I don't think you can win like that. Nice guys do finish last. But that's ok. I don't mind that a bit. I will still be a nice person- but I won't worry about voting for a person I don't think is nice. BEcause there hasn't been a nice guy in the White House since Jimmy Carter.
