Mexicans shoot at Border Patrol Yeah... It is obvious that Vicente Fox has yet to get a complete grip on the Mexican military, especially when many of these guys are running protection for drug smugglers. I'd lay you odds that these were diversionary attacks aimed at drawing Border Patrol attention and resources away from some other operation the smugglers were conducting. Either that or sheer intimidation.. Bush has got a pretty good relationship with Fox... His election will only bode well for getting a better handle on the border issues.

glad somebody found the news copy - I heard this story on the radio the other day, almost drove down to the border with my Desert Arms .50 caliber semi-automatic. Really pissed me off.

Hey Richard... happened across a guy this afternoon who works as an analyst for the DEA. Asked him what all of this shooting is about on the border and his response was that the Mexican troops are getting p*ssed off because US property owners right on the border have been taking the law into their own hands, sometimes shooting at illegals and smuggling crossing the border on their lands... So while I don't condone the Mexicans for chasing our federal officers around and shooting at them, we should put in the context that property owners may be overzealously protecting their property rights. Btw, I'm also NOT saying that these land owners don't have a reasonable complaint, especially when garbage, junk, discarded feminine products, and the smell of crap is spoiling their land. But shooting at someone may be going a bit far, especially in light of the reason they are illegally immigrating. I think GW will help to get a handle on this situation... Btw, I really have a hard time thinking of you as ever having been a moderate after all of those contentious discussions we've had on the gold thread... <VBG>
