Pete, I wouldn't put much stock in the pricewatch P4's, one way or the other. Maybe it was Micron dumping its stock in the gray market. I'd assume the price has more to do with rarity and curiosity value than market reality when release finally happens.

The story for the past month or so has been that the chipset is the limiting factor on release, and there's no indication of that story changing. If somebody wants an expensive tie tack, they can pick up a bare p4, or maybe coaster is more appropriate given the size. I supposed someone might want to pick one up to see if the ES has come off the serial number. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay much attention to the price.
