And crimes are committed because criminalization keeps drug prices artificially high

We can agree on that X.

It's a very libertarian notion that I coming more and more in line with accepting..

However, it creates some real issues about self-responsibility and exactly what role the government should play in assisting people to overcome their own addictions.

People who are into "escapism" have to be slapped with hard reality before they realize how they are destroying their lives. Therefore, if people know the government will be there to bail them out, they may be more inclined to abuse themselves.

Legalize drugs only if there is a "tough-love" form of government that places a premium on self-reliance/responsibility.

And crimes are committed because criminalization keeps drug prices artificially high and attracts a criminal element to drugs precisely because they are criminal.

Legalizing drugs and bringing down drug prices will only make it easier for teenagers, and even younger children, to buy these drugs. If you legalize drugs you will, most likely, end up with higher drug use rates in these age groups.
