Federal Agencies Use Tumbleweed MMS to Protect E-mail Networks; Tumbleweed MMS Offers Government Agencies Complete Internet E-mail Management Solution

BusinessWire, Wednesday, November 01, 2000 at 08:34

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 2000--Tumbleweed Communications Corp.(R) (Nasdaq:TMWD), a leading provider of secure Internet communications services, today announced that the Department of Energy (DOE), General Services Administration (GSA), and the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) under the Food and Drug Administration have chosen Tumbleweed Messaging Management System (MMS)(TM) to secure, monitor and manage the e-mail communication stream between their employees, other government agencies and business partners on the Internet.

Tumbleweed MMS is a set of e-mail management products that enables these government organizations to protect sensitive data on the Internet. Each of these organizations can use MMS to set and implement policies for Internet e-mail by applying content control, encryption, access control, attachment management, virus scanning and digital signature policies that are administered centrally and universally across their enterprise.

"We implemented Tumbleweed Messaging Management System (MMS) to manage our e-mail communications stream with regulated industry, and other agencies," said Greg Brolund, associate director for the Office of Information Technology for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. "We can centrally create policies to oversee and control the flow of Internet e-mail communications with minimal impact on our end users and without exhausting our vital IT resources."

"Like any large organization today, the Department of Energy depends on e-mail for daily communications among its offices and business partners. Protecting our e-mail network from harmful messages, such as viruses and spam, is critical," said Charlie Smith, lead engineer for the Department of Energy. "Tumbleweed MMS enables us to protect our networks, ensuring the continued flow of e-mail, while filtering out unsolicited e-mails that do not comply with department guidelines."

"Tumbleweed MMS enables federal agencies to manage and oversee centrally, the secure delivery of business-critical information flowing through their e-mail networks everyday," said Jeffrey C. Smith, president and CEO, Tumbleweed Communications Corp. "Using MMS, our federal customers can protect their information assets traveling over the Internet and safeguard their enterprise from harmful content without placing a burden on their end-users."

FWIW, SPX is already forming a rising wedge, beginning with the 1305 low for the lower trendline and the first peak after that for the upper trendline:

Only two touches on the lower line, but three on the upper.
