5 years after we bought our $16 million Cray Y-MP we nearly had to pay to have it hauled away to a landfill - it was less than worthless. At the last minute, a company that salvages gold from old computer components paid us a nominal sum for the machine and hauled it away avoiding what would have been an extremely embarrassing expense.

I think this area has been addressed recently by the US Government - and the MIPS value for "supercomputer restrictions" has been raised sufficiently to allow Intel and AMD based PCs to be exported.
