quasar 1:

Just want to welcome you and the refreshing perspective that accompanies you...It's about time, AMDers quit being defensive...Absolutely zilch in the past 12 months that requires any defense...AMD's performance speaks eloquently and loudly...AMD has accomplished everything and more in the past 12 months that could be reasonably expected of any company...In fact AMD has performed so well, (i.e record breaking revenues and earnings in 4 successive quarters)that competitors are eating AMD's financial and product performance dust...What's more, Y2001 is shaping up to be significantly superior to the about to be completed record setting Y2000!!! No, nothing to be defensive about here...Competitors can only wish their ships were as seaworthy as is AMD's at this historical juncture, a point in time when AMD has wrestled away the leadership role in every space in which it chooses to compete...(By the way, last trade $24-1/8...and given $50 is cheap by some of our calcualtions, AMD hasn't even warmed up yet...Hang on when it does)

Quasar, <Who is getting the 'free ride' here?>

You tell me. INTC is off 40% from its 52-week high, AMD is off 50% from its 52-week high. Neither stock is performing that well these days.

My point was that Intel is under a bigger microscope than AMD. But then again, you have a good point. With INTC valued at a higher P/E ratio than AMD, perhaps it's natural that the microscope is more closely focused on Intel.
