RDRAM only chipsets for the P4 for "the bulk" of 2001. Later in the year a chipset using SDRAM. DDR RAM folling that "as that technology matures".

Quake III has "only" SSE optimizations (and barely no 3DNow optimizations). The main contribution to this impressive score is probably the very big bandwidth provided by the quad-pumped FSB and the Rambus memory. At higher resolutions (probably already at 800x600x32) this advantage should fade. But this is a good example how the P4 will do extremely well on bandwidth dependent benchmarks.

doug & thread, on Quake Arena, they may be comparing Dell's best P3 platform to Dell's P4 platform, which was announced to be using some super-duper 64M graphics board.
