VIA plans to introduce a DDR SDRAM chipset for the Pentium 4, dubbed PX266, during the first quarter of next year, according to this article. In the article, a VIA spokesperson states that Intel has a "big hole" in its roadmap, something VIA intends to fill. Intel has publicly stated it is investigating options for supporting DDR SDRAM on the Pentium 4 platform, and licensing third-party chipset makers like VIA is one option:

Intel has licensed some chipset suppliers to provide products for the Pentium 4 that will go on the market during the fourth quarter of this year, chief executive Craig Barrett said in Taipei last week. He declined to say which chipset makers have been licensed.

Via's Chen declined to comment on whether his company is one of the Intel licensees.
Indeed, back in July, VIA said it would introduce a DDR chipset for the Pentium 4 with or without a license. Though that was most likely a bluff, it is very possible VIA now has a license to produce Pentium 4 chipsets. ALi also expressed interest in the Pentium 4 platform back in July. With the chip's introduction only a few weeks away, it will be interesting to see what transpires in the chipset market.
