Perhaps if you'd been in the slave owning South you wouldn't be so glib about the differences. Or even if you'd been in the segregated South in the 50's. Racial barriers have been fairly clear in this country up until now. I am happy to see the barriers finally coming down. But I don't see the point in denying they've been a huge problem in this country- and that plenty vestiges of racism still exist.
