Dan3, From what I can see your argument is flawed by the simple fact that RAMBUS never agreed to cross licensing or JEDEC rules. They offer only IP.. no product. RAMBUS' IP was taken away from them without consent. If the others wanted to share IP and set up rules to protect themselves as a group then that's their problem. Too late for them to cry because RAMBUS has all the nuts. Whatever they have RAMBUS doesn't need... they need RAMBUS.

Dan3,
RE:"so if Rambus business plan starts to look successful, the industry will have to change the way it deals with patent holders so that they don't face similar demands for 20% of their profits from each of a hundred little companies."

It's a fact that litigation can stunt a whole industry.
Lets see how the tech industry can avoid it.

Jim

And what hundred little companies are those.
I can name 2 and they are not little.

RMBS QCOM

Each developed something the industry needed - each wants what the deserve out of it. RMBS has spent 10 years perfevting technology, looking ahaead beyond the obvious IMO and succeeded. Now for that 10 year effort - all they are asking for is a lousy 3% that if they all pay, does not cost any of them anything.

That is what is so stupid about it. If they are selling stuff below cost, it is because they are stupid.
