Well, if it's any consolation, I thought a lot of it was funny. But I do want to mention that neither X nor I made any reference to evil white men. I have a white man husband and two white manboy sons and so witness reverse discrimination quite a bit.
But it doesn't negate the fact that white men HAVE ruled and that women and minorities WERE considered possessions and that overcoming that ingrained perception of their inferiority has taken a long time. What I was reading from X's posts was her own frustration that women had been left out of the process for hundreds of years and still are to a great extent. To be told that it was because they didn't want it bad enough was awfully insulting.
The rudeness and anti-female attitude that erupted here with so much quick resentment and so little sympathy for the battle caught me by surprise and saddened me.
I do not hold you, Ron, responsible for my grandmother's not being able to vote. ANd actually, my political views are much closer to yours than they are to X's. Wasn't it odd that because I spoke up for women, Longgone assumed I was some radical women's libber Goregal and began treating me as an adversary? It's that kind of rash presumption along with a refusal to take charge of one's own anger that obliterates any possibility of understanding others.
