Nine More Firms Join Intellectual Property Trading Center

O.T.???

Friday, November 3, 2000
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Toshiba Corp. (6502), Mitsubishi Corp. (8058) and Nikkei Business Publications Inc. said Thursday that their joint venture to create an online trading system for chip intellectual property has gained capital participation from nine new partners and become a full-fledged company.

The preparatory company, IPTC Planning Corp., was set up by the three firms earlier this year to create a membership-based online trading system for intellectual property to be embedded on semiconductors. The business company, dubbed IPTC, is capitalized with 430 million yen and is slated to begin offering services in April 2001.

The new business partners are Canon Inc. (7751), Innotech Corp. (9880), Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (6752), Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (6503), Rohm Co. (6963), Zuken Inc. (6947), Spinnaker Systems Inc., Thine Electronics Inc. and Meitec Corp. (9744).

IPTC will evaluate the quality of design data, offer information to member firms, investigate patents, provide technical support and offer other services. By allowing chipmakers to use design data registered with IPTC, the company intends to help manufacturers cut costs and reduce R&D times for complex system chips.
