Bob, you must be an Al Gore supporter. Since when did 70% become the standard for a monopoly ? Who decided this standard ? I don't see it in the law...

I understand that end users or "consumers" have choices.

I understand that competitors can and do offer their own operating systems, apple, Linux, BEOS and previously IBM offered OS2 Warp.

I understand that competitors can and should develop their own operating systems and applications and that competitors are free to reach agreements with OEMs to distribute their operating systems and applications.

I understand that Microsoft does not prevent OEM such as Compaq, Gateway and Dell from offering PC with alternative operating systems or including additional applications.

I understand that hardware is what Gateway sells and their "first screen" is the cow-colored box that they ship their products in. They also own the color and design of the case, keyboard, mouse and video display unit. They may choose include additional software that the user can easily install after the first boot.

I understand that OEMs can sell Internet Appliances and thus hide the actual Operating System from the consumer. In such devices the OEM has complete control over the first screen.

I understand that Windows is a copyrighted product from Microsoft and I feel that they legally have the right to determine what ships inside this product and what functions it will perform upon the first boot. I also feel that the end user should decide what customizations he or she wants to install after that first boot.

I understand that I'm voting for George W. Bush.

Anymore questions?
