I don't think the same things that promote a good one-night romp are necessarily the same things that allow you to bear being with the same person for a lifetime. That person better be a trusted friend first if you want happiness. I proposed to my wife right away when we met because there was an immediate connection that simply didn't exist with previous people. That was almost 20 years ago. It didn't hurt that she was attractive, but that wasn't the most important thing for me. Not for someone I wanted to marry. One experience for me, which sounds superficial, but isn't was that she was an effortless passenger on the back of my motorcycle. If you think of a motorcycle as a highly balanced top and that conflicts of will manifest as physical effects, the willingness to participate in the riding process was absolutely smooth. Even though she was frightened by it (it was her first time), she didn't fight it. This is a statement of temperament, trust and an ability to go with the flow in unpredictable situations...
