Gore Says Bush Is A Menace to Senior Citizens

By RICHARD SISK
Daily News Washington Bureau

KISSIMMEE, Fla.
l Gore made his last pitch for Florida yesterday, trolling for
the gray vote by charging George W. Bush would unleash
"Social Insecurity" on senior citizens.

At rallies here and later in Tampa with thousands of younger
"parrot head" fans of rocker Jimmy Buffett, Gore warned that
Bush would raid the retirement system to benefit his corporate
buddies.

Bush's plan to let younger workers
invest part of their Social Security
taxes in stocks instead of using the
money to pay off current recipients
would "pit the young against the old,"
Gore told a raucous rally of about 700
in a civic center near a spacious
shuffleboard complex.

lawdog,

Mind if I change the subject for a moment....

I saw an AP wire today....extract below, and I have a question...my memory isn't too good...One of the Presidential candidates made a reference to having his administration meet a high ethical standard not just a "legal one". Do you recall which candidate that was?

Bush Appointee in Texas Tax Scandal
by MARK BABINECK
Associated Press Writer

HOUSTON (AP) -- A member of the Texas low-income housing board was convicted Thursday of accepting bribes from business partners to defraud the government of valuable tax credits.

The verdict against Florita Bell Griffin, appointed in 1995 to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs by Gov. George W. Bush, came after about 14 hours of deliberations over four days.......
...
Washington [Griffin's attorney], who argued that the money and land she received was compensation for consulting work, told jurors the activity described by prosecutors might have seemed unethical, but it was not illegal."
