GV, how can Win2000 be losing share when it's just getting out there?

Tony

RE: "Amy, taking that one step further is a Merrill enterprise survey"

Hi GV, I'm glad you posted this. I wish you would contribute these types of thoughts to the thread pro-actively. Sometimes I get the feeling you hold back a lot of information and just watch, or am I incorrect?

Btw, was the "share" a measure of Unit share or Revenue share? Intel is the Unit share leader, Sun is the Revenue share leader. I didn't know which Share - revenue or unit - (and yours was about growth, not installed base, which is different) you were talking about. Was it revenue or unit - this can make a difference in interpretation?

Well, Intel fortunately can work with Linux, although Tony's reason (about Win2k just getting out there) is very valid. Btw, I don't know if you know of Brian Valentine who heads up Windows, but he is one of the best managers in the industry and someone I trust to do a job well. Let's hope Brian can make Win2k happen, as I believe he will -- his past results tend to be solid and progressing, although, initially slow. That would be Brian's style. The initially slow part is fine with me, because he has a style to build his fort very solidly, before a steady attack.

His results tend not to be the quick & easy kind, nor are they built upon a non-lasting foundation, but rather, he is the type of guy who might say the heck (or, a stronger word) with today, let's suffer now, but let's go all out and build for a solid tomorrow: slow, steady, but solid, building results. I think Brian's style will show the money, as it has in the past - slow at first, but growing steadily and reliably.

Regards,
Amy J
