November 2, Qualcomm Delays Software Unit's IPO,
Citing Unfavorable Market Conditions
A WSJ.COM News Roundup

Qualcomm Inc., the wireless-technology giant, said Thursday it has postponed the $1 billion initial public offering of its software unit until January because of unfavorable market conditions. In July, San Diego-based Qualcomm said it would spin off Qualcomm Spinco in a tax-free distribution to its shareholders. The unit designs and develops cell phone chips that can operate using the wireless technology of Qualcomm and Qualcomm's competitors.

Shares of Qualcomm, which had $3.9 billion in sales in fiscal 1999 and has a market value of $48.5 billion, traded at $63.30 a share early Thursday on the Nasdaq Stock Market, up $1.80, or 2.9%.

My comment: The first and third sentence of this very short article contradict each other. This shows that, not only is the writer very casual about getting his facts straight, but so it the editor. Or maybe the writer thinks chips are a type of software. Geez.
