I think there are a lot of people out there who have had brain transplants with hamsters ...

Jon,

I cannot figure out why your statement made me think about analysts. <g>

I am wondering what the effect of Rule FD will be on the market for analysts. Pre-FD, you might listen to an analyst because, even if s/he were a moron, you figured s/he might be speaking with a co. You might indirectly learn something from even a moron that company representatives may be speaking with. Post-FD, why listen to moron analysts? The company is not giving them information, and they are morons.

Greater attention will be paid to those analysts who really groc a company or industry sector. For QCOM, that might be Alex Cena, Tim Luke, and maybe a few others.

Perhaps the old "This analyst upgrades, downgrades, etc." will not have less effect. The analysts who are really good--worth paying attention to--might just move to establishing their own websites, collecting subscription revenue from studying the company and/or trading in the stock the follow (unburdened by the rules of their institution).

The ones left behind at the brokerages would be the morons no one would be willing to pay to get information from.
