What's misleading is that most all MP3 encoders don't use SSE. Intel found one to introduce the P3 with. I believe it was "Virtuosa gold" I've yet to find anyone who ever used it. It looked like a toll road.

The popular ones like Lame, Fraunhofer, Blade (ISO), Xing...don't use SSE to my knowledge.

So without knowing which encoder they used, the test and whether it was SSE optimized some statement like "25% faster" is very misleading.
