That's all too familiar.
The addition of all-spice in place of cloves and the addition of ground ginger did the trick.

Sounds like my Dry Rib Rub. I used Old Bay instead of All Spice.

Edit ... If you grate a fresh ginger root and freeze it flat in a zip bag .. you can break off pieces to use .. instead of powder.

Robert,

I never use MSG. I use sugar as a flavor enhancer. Im not talking about making the dish sweet, but when use correctly in combination with salt, it does enhance the flavor.

I was also told the MSG was made from beet sugar. How valid, I dont know.
