Sonus Acquisition news report:

Thursday November 2, 4:48 pm Eastern Time
Sonus will buy telecom technologies inc. for $441 mln
NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Telecommunications equipment maker Sonus Networks Inc. (NasdaqNM:SONS - news) said on Thursday it would buy telecom technologies inc. for at least $441.5 million in stock to expand its product offerings.

Westford, Mass.-based Sonus said it will issue 10.8 million shares of stock, plus an additional 4.2 million shares for the purchase if Richardson, Texas-based telecom technologies achieves certain business objectives.

The acquisition will expand Sonus' line of telecommunications switching products by adding telecom technologies' so-called ``softswitch technology,'' which uses software to execute switching functions.

Sonus will record a charge of between $30 million and $50 million for the write-off of in-process research and development during the quarter in which the deal closes.

Sonus shares closed Thursday at $40-7/8, up $2 for the day on Nasdaq.
