Riley to step down as Goldman Sachs' commods head

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2000 9:05:00 AM EST
NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Veteran precious metals trader James Riley announced Wednesday his departure as managing director of J. Aron & Co, the commodities trading arm of investment bank Goldman Sachs, at the end of the year.

Speaking to a crowd of gold market professionals from around the world at the annual New York Mercantile Exchange Gold Dinner, Riley, said resigning after 25 years as a dominant player in the bullion business was a difficult decision.

He will be replaced by Richard Ruzika at the helm of Goldman's commodities operation, among the largest market makers in precious metals and active participants in energy markets and other commodities.
