To: foundation who wrote (4236 ) 11/2/2000 10:35:07 PM From: EJhonsa Respond to of 197275 OT: I would be hard pressed to care less how you perceive my views...We'll agree on one issue - your sense is rather common. Ditto. Considering the quality of the counter-arguments that I often get from others, both here and elsewhere, I personally don't care much about your pseudo-poetic rants in relation. Nonetheless, I feel the need to jump in and comment for the same reason I'd feel the need to do so should I see a religious whack-job start preaching on a street corner to strangers who might think that the whack-job in question might be speaking via a rational mindset, that he's actually able to think clearly and think for himself, even though this is far from the truth. And this is all that you, and dozens of others scattered around assorted investment message boards on the net, really are, even though you'll never admit it. The odd thing about cultists is that almost everyone's aware of what they are but them. Go try talking to someone from Hamas, or perhaps one of those extremist environmental activists, and they won't state what's so obvious to those around them. No, they'll tell you how they've seen the light, how their cause is a holy one, and all those who stand against it are inevitably wrong in every sense. Oh, they might not put it that way. They'll make sure that they rationalize and rationalize and spin facts until they're able to lie to themselves about why they think the way they do. That's just how it is. Now, with that said, one can see what a irritating job it'd be to try to counter the rantings of such a person in order to make sure that others don't get fooled into following the piper. No matter what you say, the cultist in question will make sure to counter by spinning more facts to create more twisted fantasies. The hole in his head, devoid of reason but filled with dogma, will make sure of this, and thus anyone who devotes himself to the task of countering such a person's arguments must have an extraordinary amount of both spare time and patience. I have neither. I didn't register at SI to play the role of an altruistic truth-bringer seeking to debunk the commentary of those are so obviously incapable of rational though. Such a demeanor, in fact, would make me very similar to you. I registered in order to be able to debate with people much like some of those who write on this board, people that are actually able to present intelligent, fact-based arguments. This is more than I can say for any fanatic or "true believer" that I've ever known. Unfortunately, over the past few days, I've let myself down in terms of holding true to my stated reasons for registering with SI; and I think that as long as I continue to read your posts, for the reasons that I've stated, I'll let myself down time and time again, regardless of how much I try not to. So it seems that the decision I have to make is fairly clear. I haven't used SI's ignore feature yet, but I suppose that there's a first time for everything. Adios Ben. I'll see you in July. Eric
