John,

<If you are talking about the question "when will you break out numbers from the new businesses", that was mine. And I didn't buy into the answer that competition would like to know that information.>

Good question and bad answer. The competition thing is a total BS. There is no single competitor in the communication sector that has similar profile to Intel. Given the diversity of products Intel has in that space, it will be nearly impossible to decipher them even if they were broken down.

<Other than that, I don't get the point of you post. Are you saying that Intel is manufacturing an accounting loss in the "other" category? >

Yes!

<For what purpose? >

Either to finance growth (i.e, buying the networking companies and writing off the excess valuation) or to make the IABG numbers look better than what they are. I consider the first possibility to be very likely and the second one to be somewhat likely. I think the odds are that it is mixture of both.

Inspite of what Intel wants people to believe, no one should doubt that Intel is hurting in IABG lot more badly than the management is willing to admit.

<you should be buying Intel, because their earnings are WAY understated.>

I am saying quite the opposite! I am saying that IABG numbers may be overstated. I will definitely consider buying INTC about 2 or 3 quarters into P4 ramp. AMD's business penetration and Clawhammer status should also be well known by that time and that should tell us a lot about if Intel even has a shot at regaining its old glory.
