Maybe I misunderstand what you mean by this, but in my book it WOULD be a forklift upgrade. It would involve the wholesale swapping of old equipment for new at the endpoints, and is totally incompatible with any existing endpoints. It is a totally proprietary solution (not that this is good or bad--just emphasizing the point). It's also not clear to me whether their streams could be added to a more "traditional" DWDM carousel of wavelengths if they have to traverse OPN's (other people's networks). There may be some interference issues.
