I think the key point to look at is this:
Assume you're selling a 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4 of you XYZ holding that you are up 1000% on. Will it crush you mentally or financially (or both) if what you have left continues to zoom like Michael Schumacher in his F1 Ferrari for the next 5 years?? I don't think so.

Now...what if you sell nothing and it blows a tire and crashes hard into the "kitty litter" going end-over-end while leading the race by a wide margin? You'd be very pissed and dream up all kinds of woulda coulda shoulda stories of why? "damn @#$%$# Firestones!!..they cost me big"

I just read UF over on the QCOM thread talking about selling some calls against his QCOM position cuz he's not sure when explosive growth of G3 will show up in the stock again. Just another form of money management at work.
