Jay, yes the wash sale rules have to do with taking tax losses. But the point I was trying to make which had a bit of humor in it is, if you already have losses for the year which I suspect many people do this year, the wash sale rules are of no concern and buying back the same stock w/in 30 days of selling it is not that big of a deal.

It only matters if you intend to use the loss to offset gains. So the key here is that you must have gains, which I'm assuming many do not, with the exception of those like Pat.
