With government, I'm allowed one decision* every three or four years.* Technically correct, but perhaps worded a bit strongly. You, of course, do get to decide for whom you will vote. But the link between your vote and who actually rules for the following three or four years is tenuous (unless you happen to live in Shawinigan). It must be as frustrating to be an Alliance supporter in Toronto as it is to be a Liberal in Calgary. In neither case do you have a hope in heck of having an MP you actually support. I've never been an advocate for proportional representation, but OTOH the present system just isn't working. The point about the choice to purchase a service is bang on. If I choose to buy shares in a company, and through mismanagement it becomes insolvent, that was the risk I accepted up front. Somehow I don't think I'd get very far with Revenue Canada if I said, "I don't choose to forward my income tax remittance, as you have squandered several times over all the taxes I will pay during my lifetime." I lost money in LDM because my DD wasn't up to snuff -- lesson learned (I hope). What lesson am I supposed to learn from HRDC?

Because as Mr. Ray found out in short order when Bay St. came calling you play their game or they take their ball and go home! They control the media and the market and have the power to make or brake any political party. The only Prime Minister that told the Bay Street bullies to take a hike and got away with it was Trudeau :) He was not always right but he did fight for the middle class! Zzzzzzzzzzzzz gp
