As I remember it...the US achieved it's mandated goals of liberating Kuwait. We did not have the UN authorization to wage the final solution and enter Bagdad. We had destroyed 2/3 of Iraq's army in 4days of ground war...LOL At the time, we didn't want Iran to have the upper hand over Iraq. It was a big mistake to let Iraqs elite forces go free....as they were later used to crush their own people in the north. Americans didn't want to be viewed as slaughtering unnecessarily after we had achieved the outlined goals. Those pictures of the highway of death is what stopped the total destruction of the elite guard. If the US entered bagdad it may have resulted in a Beruit situation and American soldiers would be killed needlessly...we certainly didn't want to become an occupying army. The US, totally expected Hussien to be toppled....amazing how the Clinton administration has failed to take advantage of this victory? I agree, Cheney is a very qualified individual for vice president and would be a great asset in foreign policy. I'm sure everyone would be much more comfortable if cheney was called to be president, I can't say the same for liberman. JMO, Bush has much more quality people surrounding him. Including his father. if Gore somehow won the electorial college but lost the popular vote....he would have a terrible 4 years w/ congress and senate. I think his foreign polices would be filled w/ pitfalls. Scary really. JMO...can't wait until it's over I know I'm not the only person who can't wait to see the sleaze "Wag the Dog" Clinton/Gore administration gone....
