Actually robbie, I am not a supporter of either Bush or Gore. However, since you brought up the inventing the internet story, and YOU are a Bush supporter and Bush and his people have endlessly ridiculed Gore for the supposed claim of inventing the internet, I thought you might actually be interested to know that Gore never said that. Just because something is endlessly repeated doesn't make it so.
What Gore told Wolf Blitzer last year was that early in Gore's congressional career he had taken the lead in creating the internet. This happens to be the case. As you know, the internet was initially funded and created in the 60s by the Defense Department as a network linking together various research facilities. In 1986, Gore sponsored legislation that would extend the network into libraries, minority institutions and rural schools, and in 1989 Gore testified that his bill, if passed, would "create an environment where work stations are common in homes and even small businesses." In 1991, Pres. Bush signed the bill into law, lauding it as a potentially revolutionary. Gore sponsored it. Gore shepherded it through Congress. And here we are using it in exactly the way he envisioned 15 years ago. That is the REAL story.
