1. As a means of assuring that basic skills are taught, and there is accountability.

2. St. John's is generally considered on par with Swarthmore and some of the lesser Ivy League schools. When I was there, if someone applied to Harvard and St. John's and got into both, he was likely to go to Harvard. If someone applied to Swarthmore or Amherst and St. John's, it was a toss up, about 50- 50. I someone applied to Antioch or Oberlin and St. John's, and got into both, he was likely to go to St. John's.

3. Perhaps we should discuss Plato sometime.
