I agree. Although never wild, I have not exactly discussed my occasional indiscretions with my 16 year old. I do not want him taking it as license for further indiscretions of his own. When he is older, and I do not have to worry over his discipline, perhaps I can tell him about the time I testified before a Maryland Senate Judiciary Committee meeting stoned, and got specially complimented by the chairman anyway........

Re: "many psychologists and child-rearing experts recommend that parents NOT volunteer or discuss specifics of their past mistakes with their children. There is often an adversarial stage that teens go through with parents when this kind of information can be used as a weapon against authority or an excuse for the adolescent's own behavior."

This seems very important. I hope all the world takes notice. If it had been a Gore peccadillo, representatives from the American Psychological Association, NEA, and 49 other organizations would have been all over the networks this morning, defending and praising him for his "correct" parenting and handling of the situation.

Bush used his instincts and common sense, and came to the correct conclusion for his children and family.
