You know full well that humor can be used to insult, as well as amuse. It's the intention that makes the difference. Do we intend to deflect a tense situation with humor, or do we intend to insult but hide behind humor to do so? One is honest, the other is not, if one denies the insult. I'm not suggesting you do the latter, though I often read insult and dismissal into your humor. And, yes, I do that. Mostly I use humor to make a point, but keep things civil. I seldom want to insult someone. But I often want to argue a point. You've known me long enough to know I'm a smart ass. I think you're a bit of one, too, but seldom want to insult, and refrain when you do.
